Happy Birthday #50

Happy 50th Birthday to me!  Where in the world has the time gone?  Guys, did you know that I have to now use a calculator to figure out how old I am?  I keep telling people that I’m 45.  I heard someone recently say that they were 39 with 11 years of experience.  LOL!    In honor of my 50th Birthday, here are 50 things you may not know about me:

  1. Trey

I wish DH knew how much I appreciate and LOVE him every dayHe’s been my rock since day one.  I forget to tell him most of the time.  I will go tell him right now!!!

  2. Gray

I’m debating whether or not to let my hair go completely gray.  I loathe spending 100’s of dollars on hair color every 3-4 weeks.  It drives me bonkers.  I may let it go gray and then go back to brown.  Wish me luck b/c I’m scared that I will look older.  I’ve had gray hair since the age of 25.  Here’s a fun Facebook link for moral support on this topic:  Silver Revolution.

  3. Feelings

I feel like I am never doing enough.

  4. Vegetables

I worry what my two handsome sons think of me – whether I’ve been a good Mom or not.  Hey, you, “Eat your vegetables!”

  5. Shy

I’m an introvert.  I’m perfectly happy staying home and watching a great movie in DH’s media room.

  6. Ann

I miss my friend, Ann, terribly!  She was my best friend, big sister, and greatest cheerleader all rolled into one tremendous human being.  I wish I could have one more laugh with her.

  7. Eldest Child

I am the eldest of four siblings – two sisters and one baby brother.

  8. Suicide

My Mom committed suicide in 1996.  It was a triple homicide.  She was the very definition of evil. I turned 50 before I forgave her.  Hatred was what I survived on.

  9. Death Threats

I survived a death threat by my mother.  Who does this craziness?

  10. God

I am a Christian! My Mom told us to NEVER EVER believe in God.

  11. Boots

I survived a death threat by my ex-husband.  I escaped to a Women’s Shelter in September 1991.  My eldest son, Joseph, was only 12 months old.  We lived at the shelter for 2 months until Joseph and I moved into our very own place.  I pawned my wedding ring for a pair of men’s work boots.

  12. Gardening

wish that I could spend more time in my garden.  It gives me such a sense of peace.  Pulling weeds is also a great way to burn off anger.  Oh look, a butterfly. . .

  13. Joseph

I’m proud of Joseph (my eldest son) for navigating such a toxic home life.  He will get there!

  14. Adam

I’m proud of Adam (my second son) for turning into such a handsome soul. Words cannot express how blessed I am to be his Mom.

  15. Scuba

I LOVE to scuba dive! Don’t think for a second that the movie, Jaws, doesn’t play into my thoughts.  I dive anyway.  Read all about our trip to Bonaire here.

  16. Hori Hori

One of my favorite gardening tools is my Hori Hori.

  17. shoes

I LOVE pretty shoes!  Like these.

  18. clothes

I LOVE pretty clothes!  Like these.

  19. Books

My goal in reading any new book is to gain one new insight that benefits my life. I am enjoying Rachel Hollis’ book, Girl, Wash Your Face.

  20. Trigger

Our black lab, Trigger, drives me crazy!  It’s like having a toddler in the house again and forever.

  21. Fiji

A goal of mine is to visit Fiji and Thailand.  I have a whole list, but these are the first two that come to mind.

  22. Florida

I LOVE to be on the water in a sailboat, or on a bridge overlooking water, or sitting on the beach staring off into the water breathing in the salty air and listening to the waves crash.  Can you tell that I’m missing my ocean front Florida condo aptly named:  The Great Escape?

  23. Job

I enjoy my work that I do for my day job.  I just wish that the drive to and fro wasn’t such a PIA! We moved offices and going from a 15-minute drive to a 50-minute drive stinks to high heaven.

  24. Native plants

My goal for my garden is to have as many native plants (link here) that will reasonably fit in the front and back yard. Always attempt to plant natives first.

  25. Tablescapes

    I LOVE beautiful tablescapes!!!

26. smells

My favorite fragrances are:  plumeria, jasmine, and coconut.

  1.
  2. lavender

I don’t care for the smell of lavender.  It’s a popular smell and I’m just not a fan.  The lavender flower is beautiful and to see a whole meadow of them makes my heart happy.  I just don’t want to smell them.

    • wp

Learning WordPress has kicked my butt!  I have NOT found anything to be this challenging since I self-taught myself MS-Access years ago.  I didn’t give up and have actually helped someone else with WP recently.  Progress, Baby!!

  3. wp
    • Previously, anytime I would see “WP”, I would immediately think Word Perfect.  Who remembers that word processing software?  I’m surprised to find that it still exists.

29.

Canva

My favorite app for the moment is Canva!  Who knew that I could create such lovely pictures with creative text?

30.

Naked Toes

I would run around shoeless if I could.  Who needs shoes?  I like pretty shoes, but then again, when my feet swell, I don’t care how pretty they are.

31.

Red

My favorite color is red.  Every room in my Houston home has red in it – even my laundry room.

32.

Ice Cream

My favorite ice cream is vanilla with caramel sauce and nuts.  I will also eat butter pecan and strawberry.  I’m not a fan of chocolate.  I know, weird, right?  I don’t care.  I like what I like.

33.

Favorite Drink(s)

My favorite drink is a glass of chardonnay (Cake Bread comes to mind).  I will also enjoy a Mai Tai, a Hurricane, or a Margarita.  Just not all at once.

34.

Enjoy Life

I have learned that Life is short.  Enjoy the people that make you happy.  Avoid the rest of ‘em.

Was it Joan Rivers that said, “Life doesn’t get better, you get better”?

35.

My Kiddos

Every day give your kids lots of hugs!!! They can never get enough! Even if your boys are 6-4” and 6’-5” respectively.  Even if they are stinky!  Even if they are sweaty! “Yes, you kiddo!!”

They will never know how much I truly love them and would sacrifice everything for them.

36.

Reading Glasses

I have to use readers (reading glasses) now.  When I had Lasik done years ago, I was told this tidbit. Now, it’s a reality.  These red peepers are just fun to wear! Getting old is not for sissies!

37.

Organization

I attempt to stay organized.  It’s an ongoing battle for me.  I don’t need or want any unnecessary apps.  I just need a better system and a bigger desk.  Am I right?

Here’s my latest item to help stay organized.

Trey & Kathy Trosclair

38.

Blessed

I know that I am blessed every day that I have my loved ones around me.  Life would be truly boring without them.  Even Trigger (refer to #20 above) . . . maybe . . .

39.

Fine Dining

I am perfectly happy having a seven-course meal at Jean-Georges or Le Cirque.  But, I’m just as happy with a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.  Balance is key here.

Of course, DH is a great chef, so most of his home cooked meals should be Michelin rated.

40.

Famous Folks to Meet

I would love to meet:  Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Laura Ingraham, and Ellen DeGeneres, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, Angela Mayou, and Anthony Robbins.

41.

Famous Folks Met

*I have met:  Gene Simmons, Lou Ferrigno, Penn & Teller, Swamp People father and son duo – RJ & J Pual Molinere, Michael Rooker, Robin Leach, Alice Cooper, D. Marchinko, and Debra Duncan.

*NOTE:  This is by no means a complete list.

42.

Pisces

I  am a Pisces.  The following statement holds true for me:  “You don’t have to be perfect for a Pisces, just be real. They respect you more for being yourself than putting on an act.” – ZodiacMind.com

43.

My Lips

The most favorite part of my body is my lips.  They are perfect and sensual!

What is your favorite body part on yourself?

44.

Logistics

I’m great at logistics. I will figure out the best way or best route and then ensure there is no backtracking. I do this daily at my full-time job and it is how I manage my life. Subscribe to my e-mail list on the right to learn more about this.

45.

A Wish!

My wish for you is to have a beautiful life!  An extraordinary life! To wake up each morning with gratitude and despite all of the craziness, have an outstanding day!!!

46.

Time for Bling

There is no better time for bling than on your birthday.  These flamingo earrings are just fun!

Now that my hair has gone platinum, this hot pink color is sure to stand out.  Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary!

47.

Happy Birthday!

My gift to you – Enjoy this Birthday Cake Scrub recipe.

For under $5, this is a great homemade gift!

48.

Give Thanks!

Always give thanks! It’s never too late to be thankful for everything that you have. Life is too short to be greedy. Be grateful instead. If you knew that you only had three weeks left to live, how would you spend them?

Want to learn more about gratefulness? Here is a great book to learn more.

49.

Be Present!

It sounds easy enough, but in this hectic world that we live in, we sometimes worry about the next thing instead of enjoying the moment. Have you every heard the saying, “Stop and smell the roses”? Well, pause, savor the moment, be present.

50.

Forgiveness!

This was a biggie for me.  I had let things go or so I thought.  I coped by letting go, but not forgiving.  I just returned from my ACTS Retreat and let me tell you.  I am blessed beyond measure to have been invited to attend this retreat.  It was truly in God’s time.  Not mine.

Run to this retreat the next time it opens up! Do not Walk! Run!
