It’s time to pack for Cayman Brac!

From Google: “Cayman Brac is the easternmost island of the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea.”

Cayman Brac diving is going to be stunningly beautiful! Stay tuned for a more in-depth blog post and more pictures.

Our trip to Cayman Brac was planned with the Sugar Land Dive Shop.  This is our second trip (our first was Bonaire) with this amazing and fun group!

My Must-Have Items for this Trip Include:

Baby Shampoo

Use baby shampoo to defog your dive mask and it won’t sting your eyes.  You can even put this in a small spray bottle and dilute with water.  This makes it easier to spray your mask after each dive.

Dive Gear

I’m packing my Snorkel, Mask, BCD, Wet Suit (It’s warm in Cayman Brac, but I tend to get cold fairly quickly), and my Regulator – Always inspect your dive gear before departure.  Since we are checking our dive gear and our other bags, I don’t have to pack travel-sized containers.  However, travel-sized containers are smaller, take up less space, and is less weight to carry.

Currently, the air temperature on the island of Cayman Brac is a cool 90°F.  But, the water temperature on the surface is 80°F.  As we descend into our dives, we can dive through thermoclines that will cool the water even more.  Hence, the wetsuit.

On the other hand, DH, will dive with a sunshirt (aka a rash guard) and swimming trunks as he likes the cooler temperatures.

“To Each His Own”, I say.

Backpack

I will use a backpack instead of a purse.  This is a great, compact backpack.  I chose Black-15, but there is a plethora of color options.

Bathing Suits

I try to minimize my clothes as much as possible.  While one bathing suit is drying, I wear the other one.  LOVE this black & white polka dot bikini (similar here)

“Beach Please” Baseball Cap

This cap will be worn while on the dive boat.

Black and White Stripe Top

I will pair this cute top with the white capris (similar here).

Body Cream

My face is oily, but my body is dry.  This Plumeria Fragrance from Bath & Body Works is my favorite.  I prefer the body cream over the lotion as it lasts longer.

Coral Scarf

Another great outfit with the all-white ensemble is to add this coral scarf.  If the restaurant for dinner is indoors, sometimes I get cold and I can just add this to my shoulders for warmth.

Do Not Disturb Sun Hat

Love this hat to keep the sun off and Love the saying!!! I will alternate between this one and the baseball cap.

Doc’s Pro-plugs

These clear pro-plugs help me clear my ears at 15 feet.  It makes my descent must easier. I also visit a local ENT two weeks prior to the dive trip.  The ENT gives me a steroid and nose spray.

Recipe for Ear Drops – Use daily

Equal parts:  white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and peroxide.  I put these drops into my ears after each dive.

Flip Flops

will pack both pairs of flip flops (in a plastic grocery sack) and will wear my nicer sandals on the plane.  I’m choosing all flats for this vacation and my black sparkly sandals will give me just enough dressiness where needed.

I like these black Reef flip flops as they go with most everything and can get wet without damaging them.

My second pair of flip flops will be these blue pair.  All shoes begin to hurt my feet, so I like to alternate them as much as possible.

Garbage Bags

I throw in a 13-gallon garbage bag in each of our suitcases to add the dirty clothes to.  This keeps the suitcase from getting stinky and can easily be pulled out and tossed in the laundry room for the next load.

Jewelry

I typically leave my expensive jewelry at home.  I will wear my adorable plumeria ring from Oahu, Hawaii where DH and I were married.  Can you imagine losing your diamond wedding ring in the sand?  I would never be as lucky as Kim Kardashian!

I will wear my Tag Heuer watch.  It’s water proof.  I dive with it all of the time.  I have owned this watch for 10+ years. Make-up

This is the time I gather my samples and pack them, so I don’t have to carry large containers of cleanser, toner, eye-makeup remover, etc.

My SIL just began selling Mary Kay.  I LOVE the lip scrub and balm.  As I finish up my other make-up, I will transition into other Mary Kay products.

Navy Blue Kimono

I will wear this kimono over white capris (similar here) and a white tank top (similar here).  This navy kimono will also be used as a beach cover-up.

Passport Holder

Don’t forget your passport and Global Entry.  Here’s a cute passport holder.  I have a similar one in red, but there are many other color options to choose from.
Phone Protector

Universal Waterproof Case.  I like to use this phone protector while I garden, and also, while on the dive boat and at the beach.

Phone ProtectorShorts & Tank Tops

I picked up a cute pineapple tank top at Wal-Mart for approximately $4.  For shorts, I like to find them without pockets so it makes my bum look smaller.  Navy blue and black are my color choices for shorts.

Spanx

I have a pair of Spanx in nude and a pair in black.  These are great under a dress to keep my jiggly parts under control.  I have used the one that stops just under the chest and that one will make you sweat just trying to get it back on.  This one is much better.

Starfish Jewelry

This is just too cute not to wear!

Sundress

I can add a white blazer to it to make this cute sundress office professional.  Or, add a long piece of jewelry and sandals to make it ready for the beach.

Sunglasses

My go-to polarized sunglasses are my gold or silver Tiffany sunglasses.  I just love them! And, don’t forget the strap just in case you find them flying overboard.

Sunscreen

The spray is just easier.  Don’t forget to protect your ears, nose, and the back of your neck.

Travel Steamer

I don’t usually worry about ironing my clothes on a dive trip as most dinners are fairly casual.  But, it’s always nice to not be completely wrinkled.  This steamer does an excellent job of getting the wrinkles out.  It’s small, so it’s easy to pack.

Safe travels to all!

May this be your best summer yet!  If you are wanting to learn more about diving, check-out DH’s Facebook page at Blue Water Scuba.
